A complaint of elder abuse was made to the Pointe aux Sables police station late on Tuesday afternoon, July 11, by a 66-year-old woman. The woman accused her future daughter-in-law, aged 22, of slapping her several times on the morning of the same day. It was only when her son intervened that her future daughter-in-law was held in contempt. The sexagenarian, who was feeling body pains, went to the Dr A.G.Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis with a form 58 for treatment.
On Tuesday morning, July 11, at around 8.45 a.m., the 60-year-old was on her way to work when she bumped into her future daughter-in-law, who lives under the same roof in Camp Firinga, Pointe aux Sables. An argument broke out between them over a Central Water Authority bill. The argument escalated and the young woman began repeatedly slapping her.
It took the intervention of her son to get the young woman away from her. The sexagenarian, who was in pain from the slaps inflicted on her, went to Dr Jeetoo Hospital for treatment. In her statement, the 60-year-old quoted a 23-year-old woman who witnessed the violence.
Suspect Neha Ragaven was arrested and detained at Pailles police station. This Wednesday morning, July 12, she was brought before the Port-Louis court.
