A search was still underway yesterday, Friday April 19, in the Sainte Marie lagoon near Pomponette, Riambel, for the body of Sadaseven Thandroyen, a 73-year-old man from Beaubassin. He had gone there on Thursday April 18. Following a request from a 62-year-old fisherman living in Riambel, police officers from the Souillac police station went to the site. He said he had seen a man enter the water and drown.
The tragedy occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. Immediately alerted by this witness, police officers from the Souillac police station went to Sainte Marie beach. Police machinery was set in motion for a search operation. Elements of the National Coast Guard dived in to search for the man’s body, but to no avail.
At the same time, a search was carried out on the beach. A grey Toyota car was found unoccupied and unlocked. An identity card and driving license were found inside. A pair of sponge slippers was found on the ground. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and confirmed that his father was driving the vehicle.
A search was carried out until nightfall, but to no avail. His son, a 30-year-old commercial bank employee, told the investigators that his father is a man with no history and is on good terms with everyone. The septuagenarian is in good health.
The car was returned to its owner, along with a sum of Rs 7800 which was in a handbag inside the car.
