School Calendar 2022 : Further Changes For The Betterment Of Students

Must Read

The Cabinet has taken into account the accumulated delays due to the Covid 19 situation. In order not to consciously cause a delay in the academic lives of the students and at the request of parents, the VPM and Minister of Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology, Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun has announced some new measures concerning the students of grades 1, 5, 10 and 12.

In view of the backlog, the new change is to allow an upgraded and adjusted continuum for students. “Grade 1 students, born between 1 January 2015 and 31 May 2015, will be able to move up to Grade 2 with their parents’ consent, if they wish, so as not to lose another year. Their cognitive development being more advanced, they can better assimilate,” announced the Minister during a statement to the press following a workshop with the heads of primary schools and the directors of the four education zones, held at the headquarters of her Ministry in Phoenix on Saturday 26 February.

The same opportunity will be offered to students who are 6 months behind in the pre-primary schools when they enter Grade 1. With parental consent and for those who are really ready, those in Grade 5 will be allowed to take the Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC) to be admitted to Grade 7 in 2023. The same goes for students in grades 10 and 12 so as not to lose a year, they will be allowed to take the School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate next November.

In short, contrary to previous years, these new measures will allow these students of grades 5, 10 and 12 not to lose 1 year, and to take part in the PSAC, SC and HSC as normal candidates and not private candidates. They will logically be eligible for fee allowances.
