The St Jean cemetery will be reopened to visitors from Monday December 25, but under certain conditions. This was announced by the Fabrique St Jean in a press release issued on Friday. The decision follows restrictive measures taken in response to recent damage caused by the collapse of the wall and subsequent flooding. Rehabilitation work and upgrading to safety standards enabled the reopening, while imposing strict conditions to guarantee the safety of visitors and concessionaires.
Among the conditions in force, part of zones G and L, affected by the wall collapse, has been fenced off and remains off-limits to the public until further notice.
In addition, a security cordon cordons off access to the tombs along Old Moka Road until work on rebuilding the wall is complete.
Marked flags (Red, Orange and Yellow) in certain areas indicate danger, and the public is asked to stay away from them.
Visitors are advised to take the necessary precautions around the graves, as the condition of the soil has been greatly impacted by the flooding and persistent rains.
Burials in the worst-affected areas continue to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
