This morning’s Private Notice Question focused on the Covid vaccination campaign. The Minister of Health, Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal said that a pharmacovigilance committee had been set up specifically to deal with the vaccines. He revealed that 1,153 people have reported having side effects after the injection of the vaccine. 70 cases were considered serious, i.e. they were hospitalised. Everyone recovered and there were no deaths.
The committee is chaired by a specialist in internal medicine and has three other members, including a specialist in infectious diseases.
The pharmacovigilance committee must report any case to a causality committee. The latter has estimated that only 4 cases of side effects are due to the vaccine. 2 cases are Guillain-Barré syndrome.
The Minister of Health also indicated that 42% of the population and 50% of adults have received both doses of the vaccine. He also said that 63.2% of the elderly and 60.5% of people with commorbidities have also been vaccinated.
Xavier-Luc Duval asked whether it would not be useful, while waiting to receive Pfizer to vaccinate adolescents and given the rate of absenteeism, to close the schools. The Minister of Health replied that students have already lost six months and that it is better to start the school season and then find the balance between face-to-face and online courses.
