Paralympic Games: Two Mauritian Women Qualify For The Finals On Sunday

Must Read

All eyes will be on the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo this Sunday 29 August.  And for good reason. Noemi Alphonse and Anaïs Angéline will compete in the final of their respective events.

Born with a deformity, the champion has drawn on her sporting discipline to overcome her disability. This has allowed her to blossom into a confident and ambitious person, capable of going for a gold medal for her country.

Noémi Alphonse, 5th in her heat, qualified for the final of the 800m T54 on Sunday morning. Noemi Alphonse’s time of 1m52.24s for the 800m T54 in the qualifying heats for the final is a new African record. She held the previous record of 1m54.60s which she achieved in May 2021 in Arbon, Switzerland.

The final will be held at 14:17 this afternoon. Noémi Alphonse will be in the first lane.

For Anaïs Angeline, she will be lined up in her favourite event, the long jump. If her best performance in this event is 4.31m, she will have to be at least around 4.50m to hope for a place on the podium.

Here is a statement from Noemi after her qualification:
