In the context of the 55th anniversary of the Independence of Mauritius and 31st anniversary of the accession of Mauritius to the status of a Republic, a Joint Band Concert was organised by the Mauritius Police Band and the Indian Navy Band, today, at the Municipal Council of Port Louis.
The Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, was present on the occasion.
In a statement, Minister Teeluck indicated that a series of activities are being held during the year to celebrate the milestone of 55 years of Independence. He informed that a few activities are being organised in different regions across the island to urge more Mauritians to participate in the National Day Celebrations.
Speaking of the concert, he pointed out that it is an opportunity for the public to discover local and international talents in line with Government’s objective to promote the rich culture of Mauritius.
As regards the theme chosen for this year which is ’55 an Larmoni Dan Nou Repiblik’, the Minister underlined that it highlights the importance of preserving and maintaining the harmony that has prevailed in our country over the years. All these activities, he added, will further enhance unity and solidarity, patriotism, and the culture of sharing and coexisting in peace.
