Frosted Gold will try to join Sea Warrior and Rhythmically, horses who won The Duke of York Cup (1600m – G1) twice. But there are some horses capable of preventing the champion of trainer Ricky Maingard Frosted Gold from making history on Sunday.
The 2022 Gold Cup is an event not to be missed. The grey gelding Frosted Gold returns after his injury which occurred during the Princess Margaret Cup. There have been some worries after this incident and his participation in the last classic race of the season was on hold. He was given enough time to recover properly. Frosted Gold showed that his is back to his best in training. It is a classy horse, and he will be the horse to beat with South-african jockey Bernard Fayd’herbe on board.
Twist Of Fate and The Gatekeeper, first and second respectively in the Maiden Cup, will be his most serious opponents. They will both make the transition between the 2400m and the 1600m. That might be a disadvantage.
Twist Of Fate will have a good card to play. He will be advantaged with his second line at the start, and he could have a golden race. Twist Of Fate is one of the best horses in Mauritius and he can win a second classic race this season.
The Gatekeeper finished second in the Maiden Cup and he will try to bounce back. He will be a hard nut to crack over 1600m. He will be ridden by Rai Joorawon who is always present on special occasions. The Mauritian jockey is the record holder for victories at the Champ de Mars and he won The Duke Of York Cup six times.
Walls Of Dubrovnik will try to upset the odds. He won nine races from his ten outings at Mauritius. He won easily over 1600m last time. He will face tougher opposition, but he has shown himself to be very lively in training. We have never seen him in such good shape with breathtaking gallops. The Shyam Hurchund-trained horse will be right there.
Among those who can come to cause a surprise, there is Alyaasaat. He is an excellent finisher who can turn the tables if he is not too far behind before entering the final straight.
Trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur will count on Royal Wulff, Favor and Shah Akbar. Royal Wulff has not confirmed his success in the Duchess. He was never outclassed, and he will be a big runner. Favor has made further progress after its recent victory. He can be the long shot of the race.
