In the early hours of Friday morning, August 18, a robbery was committed in unusual circumstances in the barracks of Special Supporting Unit (SSU) N0 4. A 36-year-old sleeping policeman was jolted awake when a plastic bag containing an impure liquid fell on top of him. The contents splashed onto him, damaging his sheet and uniform. His wallet containing the sum of Rs 1000 was stolen. The Guard Room Officer (GRO) to whom he reported the incident refused to make an entry.
The Grand Baie resident went to the Casernes Centrales police station at 1.40 a.m. to report the incident and the theft. In his statement, he explained that he was on a 24-hour shift and was lying on a bed at around 12.15 a.m. on Friday August 18. At some point, a plastic bag fell on top of him. It contained an impure liquid. The contents splashed onto his bed and uniform. When he woke up from his bed, he injured his ankle. His wallet, which had been beside him on his bed, was missing. It contained the sum of Rs 1000 in various denominations.
He immediately reported the incident to the sergeant on duty. The latter advised him to report the matter to the GRO. However, the sergeant made an entry about the incident before telling him, “guette ki to pou kpav fer”. The victim cited the names of two SSU policemen whom he said he suspected of being behind the incident and the theft of his wallet with the sum of Rs 1000.
