Last Friday, DLD Teen Hope School organised a ceremony to present prizes and certificates to its pupils, in front of an audience of teachers, benefactors and pupils.
DLD Teen Hope School is a non-formal remedial school in Cité La Cure for girls and boys aged 12 to 16 who have dropped out of mainstream education. Today, it is the pride of the region. This school has managed to innovate in informal sectors by adding other subjects such as hairdressing, pastry-making and music for these young people, most of whom come from difficult social and financial backgrounds and have very little self-confidence due to repeated failure at school.
For those in charge, it is vital “that we take charge of the problems of these teenagers to prevent them from falling into the ways of society”.
The ceremony began with a speech by the President of DLD Teen Hope, France Labutte, who outlined the history of the school. The school was launched in 1996 by Noyau Social Cité La Cure, an NGO founded in 1992 by the Forces Vives of Cité La Cure. He mentioned that the name of the school comes from the initiator of this project, Dolly Lamarque Duc, who died very young.
The President of the Rotary Club of Ebène, Mr Vikram Awotar, then took the floor and reiterated his association’s support for DLD Teen Hope School over the past few years. According to Mr Awotar, the Rotary Club will always be there to help this institution, which is doing remarkable work.
This was followed by the presentation of the certificates.
The school’s headmistress, Mrs Joyce Lamarque, who is the linchpin of this institution, was proud and moved by this ‘Success Story’ of those who have been able to succeed in this difficult world. According to her, the fact that some of these young people were able to be placed at MITD after passing the MITD exams with flying colours shows us the level of the institution.
