Highlights of his career

For the record, Raj Dayal will be remembered as Commissioner of Police from 1994 to 2000 and then Minister of Environment from December 2014 to March 2016 in the Lepep Alliance party.  After military studies in Europe and India, he joined the police force in 1971. He will be known as the first military pilot, one of the first elite commandos. In 1986, he became the youngest commander of the Special Mobile Force. 12 years later, he became Commissioner of Police in 1994 until 2000 when he was removed from office after a suspension in 1997 following a commission of enquiry into irregularities against him. Nevertheless, under the Lepep Alliance, he was elected to Flacq/Bon-Accueil in 2014 where he took the post of Minister of the Environment. However, a new case, that of Bal Kouler, will weigh on him and he will resign in March 2016. This controversy has been ongoing at the Financial Crimes Division under a charge of ‘bribery by public official’ and has not yet been resolved. Having pleaded not guilty, his next hearing is scheduled for 10 January 2022.
