Covid In Reunion Island: Return Of Restrictions And New Regulations Concerning Travellers From Mauritius

Must Read

The prefect of Reunion Island has just announced new restrictive measures to limit the circulation of the coronavirus on the island following the resumption of the epidemic for three weeks.

Travelers from Mauritius, Madagascar and South Africa will be concerned by those restrictions as from Monday. They will already have to prove that they already have a complete vaccination scheme (with a vaccine approved by France) or a compelling reason. They will then have to undergo a screening before and after their arrival in Reunion Island. This applies to both vaccinated and non-vaccinated persons.

No more picnics

The fourth wave of coronavirus is currently affecting Reunion Island. The epidemic spread is strong with the incidence rate exceeding 160 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on the island.

The prefect has therefore decided to reinstate a large part of the restrictions in force at the time of the major vacations. However, he did not impose any curfew or confinement because the state of health emergency is not currently in force in the department.

It is the return of anti-Covid screening for people who want to leave or come to Reunion Island but this does not concern flights between Reunion and the mainland.

The return of outdoor family gatherings only started again from 4th  October where picnics were limited to 10 people.

Family gatherings have been the source of new infections in Reunion since the beginning of the fourth wave. Picnics and bivouacs will therefore be prohibited as from Monday on the island.

The health pass extended

From Monday onwards, the inhabitants of Reunion Island will have to show their Health Pass if they want to go to exceptional events in public places, for example auction sales, garage sales, flea markets, craft markets, Christmas markets and animations.

Fair markets, where the distance between the stands and the wearing of masks is still the rule, are not concerned.

Wearing a mask

It becomes compulsory both indoors and outdoors as from Monday. The obligation applies to all persons aged 11 years and over.

Controls will be carried out to verify that the wearing of the mask is respected but also that the sanitary pass is well applied in public and private places.
