During the 52nd Plenary Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum currently taking place in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, members on Thursday 08 December 2022, proceeded to the election of the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the SADC Parliamentary Forum for the period 2022-2024.
The Republic of Madagascar which was eligible to run for the post of President, having withdrawn, supported the candidacy of the Republic of Seychelles. The Chairmanship of the SADC Parliamentary Forum thus went to the Seychelles.
According to the principle of rotation, the Vice-Chairmanship went to the Republic of Mauritius.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritius, Hon. Sooroojdev Phokeer, GCSK, GOSK, leader of the Mauritian delegation, expressed his delight at these two prestigious high positions in SADC PF which are now held by the Republic of Seychelles and the Republic of Mauritius.
With the assumption of these two positions, the Speaker is firmly convinced that after the revitalization of the Association of Parliamentarians of the Indian Ocean Commission on 09 November 2022 under his chairmanship in Antananarivo, the Republic of Madagascar, the Republic of Seychelles and the Republic of Mauritius are in a privileged position to work together for the advancement of the common interest of member countries.
