Four workers at a construction site in Cascavelle Mall were rushed to hospital in a Samu ambulance on Tuesday morning, August 8, after scaffolding collapsed. The injured were aged between 17 and 65. Two of them were able to return home after receiving treatment at the Victoria. Candos.
The accident occurred at around 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday August 8. A subcontractor working for Rehm Grinaker was laying plates for the construction of a new warehouse for the Le Bricolage store on the Ex-Karting Zone. Around ten men were assigned to the site. At some point, the scaffolding supporting the slabs collapsed.
Four workers assigned to the site were injured: a 17-year-old teenager and a 29-year-old man, both residents of cité La Ferme, Bambous, a 56-year-old man from Le Hochet, Terre Rouge, and a 65-year-old resident of cité Barkly, Beau Bassin.
After receiving medical treatment, the 29-year-old resident of cité La Ferme, Bambous and the resident of cité Barkly, Beau Bassin were able to return home. The other two were admitted to the ward and placed under observation.
A team of police officers from the Bambous police station was immediately alerted to the accident. Elements of the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service, the Scene of Crime Office and inspectors from the Ministry of Labour were also present.
