The District Court of Flacq has granted bail to a presumed cannabis dealer.
Police had been objecting for such release in bail but the magistrate, Hansheela Seeven ruled that the conditions imposed were sufficient to grant bail to the accused.
The latter was arrested on 21 July 2021. ADSU officers searched the house of the accused and found a half-cut plastic drum in which were cultivated 58 cannabis plants of height ranging from 10 to 15 cm. The value of the drug was estimated at Rs 174,000.
The enquiry officer told the Court that the drug business being a lucrative one with quick and easy money and given that the case against the accused is strong, the latter could re-offend if released on bail.
The court nevertheless ruled otherwise and has granted bail to the accused against a surety of Rs 30,000 and a recognizance of Rs 200,000.
