Bruneau Laurette appeared in court in Moka on Monday in the context of his lawyers’ motion for his release on bail. Magistrate Jade Ngan Chai King informed all parties involved that the proceedings on the said motion will take place on 16 and 17 January. Bruneau Laurette was therefore returned to Melrose Prison. It should be noted that the decision of Magistrate Jade Ngan, in the context of another motion of Bruneau Laurette’s lawyers, namely that concerning the removal of provisional charges, will be known on 20 January.
At his exit from the court in Moka, Me Shakeel Mohamed said: “We do not want the police to say that we are being difficult because our client has nothing to hide. The police do not have to waste their time to go before the judge in chambers in order to have access to information on the electronic devices of Bruneau Laurette. He has already given his consent for the purposes of the investigation and to establish that there is nothing criminal against him.
Bruneau Laurette has started to register his complaint with the IPCC
The announcement was made by one of his lawyers, Rouben Mooroongapillay. He said on Monday that Bruneau Laurette began filing a complaint with the Independent Police Complaints Commission on Friday. The details of the complaint will be communicated once the exercise is completed. It should be noted that Bruneau Laurette has allowed investigators to examine his computer devices without having to obtain a court order.
