This is that Kailesh Jagutpal revealed during the Private Notice Question today. He said that 24 patients were placed on life support during the month of October. 22 died and only 2 were discharged. Of these 24 patients, 18 were not vaccinated, 5 were fully vaccinated and 1 received a single dose. The minister also added that 171 patients were placed on oxygen and avoided intubation. 91 of them were discharged from the hospital.
Kailesh Jagutpal also revealed that 62 deaths out of 99 positive patients who died were attributed to Covid-19. One patient died at home.
Of the 37 deaths not attributed to Covid-19, 6 died at home.
The Minister of Health added that 9,663 PCR tests were performed between the 8 and 14 November, of which 1,332 were positive. 28,016 rapid tests were performed and 10,206 gave positive results.
Finally, he indicated that the department has 71 vials of Remdesivir.
Xavier-Luc Duval expressed his surprise regarding the death rate among intubated patients. He also highlighted the fact that Mauritius has a record rate of deaths per population.
Kailesh Jugutpal insisted that, according to the Ministry’s plan, the ENT hospital can support a maximum of 50 people on ventilators. But the number has never exceeded 10 patients. This is a sign, he said, that patients are getting proper care.
At one point in time, Xavier-Luc Duval asked him if, given the situation, decency did not require him to resign. “It’s up to the PM to decide if I should resign,” Kailesh Jagutpal replied.
