Zainab Soyfoo won the first step of the Slam league organized by Slam.mu on July 9. The 30-year-old teacher will be back in the ring of words this Saturday, August 6 at City Sport Bagatelle from noon.
She is currently making the buzz with Zanfan Koltar – a poignant slam in which several Mauritians found themselves: “The slam speaks to everyone, because it depicts true things that many Mauritians have experienced in their childhood. This is what explains the buzz around this slam,” explains this resident of Rivière-des-Anguilles.
Practicing slam since April of this year, the young woman intends to take a break soon: “People are waiting with great impatience for my next slams. People are looking forward to my next slams, which puts a bit of pressure on me and I don’t want to write like an automaton. That’s why I want to take a step back from slamming and come back from time to time,” says the high school English teacher.
Besides slam, Zainab also has other passions that she shares: “At MIE, I teach teachers how to do theater. In parallel I also run Zedesse – a company that offers holistic education to children.”
