The Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) will exchange coins until June 30, 2023. The ‘Your coins for change’ project will support the rehabilitation of youth in difficulty.
In line with the Bank of Mauritius’ (BoM) recommendations to recover unused coins, MCB is re-launching its ‘Your coins for change’ initiative. This initiative aims to promote the rehabilitation of young people in difficulty.
Until June 30, the MCB invites members of the public, including its customers and non-customers, to visit its dedicated branches to exchange their unused coins. All coins will be accepted: 5 cents, 20 cents, Re 1, Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 20.
When exchanging coins, it is recommended to group the coins by family, before going to the branch, in order to save time during the transaction. Customers will be able to deposit their unused coins into their account or exchange them for bills.
The MCB will contribute, from its own funds, 1% of the total amount collected to finance rehabilitation programs for young people in difficulty. It is to be noted that this initiative concerns only individual clients.
As a reminder, the first campaign ‘Your coins for change’, which was launched in 2020, allowed MCB to make a contribution of Rs 127,898.59 for the financing of a documentary film on the inhabitants of the South-East of Mauritius, hit by the Wakashio oil spill.
