Must Read

Joseph Edouard Thierry. 37, died of acute cerebral edema. This was the conclusion of the autopsy performed by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department late on Sunday afternoon, March 17. The resident of rue Alfred Besnard, Roche Bois was admitted to the Dr A.G.Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis following an assault. However, his death was not related to the assault. During his autopsy, the doctor discovered that the victim had a large brain tumor. It seemed that she wasn’t even aware of it, as she wasn’t receiving any treatment.

This case was brought to the attention of Abercrombie Police Station, St. Croix, after it was informed by the ward manager at Dr. Jeetoo Hospital. The victim was admitted on Saturday March 16 following a case of assault. However, this one dates back to Friday March 15, when he was allegedly slapped by a resident of route Cocoterie, Roche-Bois, after being caught upstairs in a house belonging to his family on rue Sainte Famille, Batterie Cassée, Roche Bois.

An ambulance was called to take him to hospital, but when he arrived at the medical institution, he left without going to the emergency department. The following day, Saturday March 16, not feeling well, he went back to the same hospital on his own. Admitted to the ward, he gave up the ghost on the morning of Sunday March 17.

In the wake of this case, the Criminal Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police Northern Division arrested Nitish Chandrader Newol, aged 25, on a charge of assault. This after three other members of his family were questioned. The suspect, a driver’s helper, confessed to having slapped the victim twice. The victim, who was in a drowsy state, collapsed.

The autopsy performed by Dr. Gungadin concluded that Joseph Thierry Edouard died of acute cerebral edema, probably caused by an overdose. Samples were taken for analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Reduit.
