It took less than 24 hours for Superintendent Seebaluck’s men from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Western Division to solve the case of rape and burglary perpetrated at the home of a 31-year-old Customer Success Officer in Quatre Bornes. One of the three suspects arrested had previously worked in the victim’s yard. They are Jean François Govinden, 33, Javed Musafar Modabaccus, 22 and Arassen Mooroogiah, 31. All three suspects have confessed to the charges against them. After being brought before the Rose Hill Magistrates’ Court on a provisional charge of rape, they were held in police custody.
As a reminder, it was around 9pm on the evening of Wednesday January 24 that three individuals burst into the woman’s house. She was bound and gagged before being raped in turn. The thugs then searched her house and stole Rs 800 from her wallet, a Huawei P30 lite cell phone and a bottle of Nina Rose perfume. It was around midnight on Thursday, January 25, when she managed to free herself to take refuge with the owner of her house, to whom she confided. This man then alerted the police to the case.
A field investigation by the Quatre Bornes CID, assisted by the Beau Bassin CID and supported by elements of the Field Intelligence Office of the Western Division and those of the Metropolitan Police of the Southern Division, led to the arrest of the three perpetrators of the rape and burglary. Subjected to intense interrogation, the three men were quick to confess.
Suspect Jean François Govinden was the first to confess, incriminating his two other homeless comrades. Jean François Govinden had already worked in the yard of this house owner. So he knows the place well. While working there, he had been asked to do some work at the victim’s home.
The three suspects were brought before the Rose Hill court on Friday morning, January 26. They were subsequently held in police custody. The victim was admitted to the Victoria Hospital in Candos to follow the protocol for victims of sexual abuse.
