This Is Why Hugh Jackman Will Play Wolverine In Deadpool 3

Must Read

Deadpool fans were shocked at the end of September with the announcement of actor Hugh Jackman’s return as the Wolverine in “Deadpool 3”. Though “Logan” in 2017 was Jackman’s last appearance as the Wolverine which ended with the character’s death. Hugh Jackman and actor Ryan Reynolds said that the plan for Wolverine’s return in “Deadpool 3” has been brewing for quite some time now.

Ryan Reynolds met the President of the Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, three and half years ago after Disney bought Fox. The first two Deadpool movies, released by Fox, made $780 million each worldwide each. Since Disney acquired Fox, there is now a chance for Deadpool to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Reynolds said about his first meeting with Marvel, “I got Kevin to talk about what, if anything, the future holds for Deadpool in that transaction.” He continued, “The subject was coming up in the meeting about if we could find a way to do a Deadpool-Wolverine pairing. It wasn’t possible then. For this to be happening now is pretty damn exciting.”

In “Deadpool 3”, Jackman will be playing Wolverine for the 10th time. The two actors met during 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in which Reynolds played Wade Wilson.

Jackman said about his role, “A little part of me now thinks I’d be better at it.” Talking about reprising his role as Wolverine, he said, “Is that arrogance of age or something? Wolverine’s tortured character- more tortured than me. But I always get the feeling of him being comfortable in his skin. And I feel more comfortable in my skin now, even though it’s messier.”

While press touring for “Logan”, Jackman made it clear that he was then retiring from the role as Wolverine. Before shooting “Logan”, Jackman saw Deadpool in 2016 which probably changed his mind but by then he had already announced his retirment. He said, “I went to a screening of ‘Deadpool’. I was 20 minutes in and I was like, ‘Ah, damn it! All I kept seeing in my head was ‘48 Hrs.’ With Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. So, it’s been brewing for a long time. It just took me longer to get here.”

While Reynolds was planning to bring Wolverine back, it was only in August that Jackman agreed to play Wolverine again. He said, “I think, actually he’d given up. I think it was a big shock to him. There was a massive pause and then he said, ‘I can’t believe the timing of this.’”

Jackman called Reynolds regarding this while he was on a beach trip with his family. Reynolds then broke the news to Feige. “Oh my God, I’m thrilled. It’s like an old home week. To get to be on set with one of my closest friends each and every day is a dream come true. But to do it with these two iconic characters side by side, that’s beyond our wildest dreams”, Reynolds expressed on the news.

“Deadpool 3” is scheduled to be in theatres on November 8, 2024.
