Telfair, le jardin enchanté was launched on August 4 at the Hennessy Park Hotel. Published by Pamplemousses Editions and sponsored by the Eclosia group, this audio book enriches the heritage of stories for Mauritian children.
First of all, the book is the meeting of two pens, namely that of Kavinien Karupudayyan, the originator of the project, with the one that has long nourished the imagination of Amarnath Hosany.
Inspired by the Telfair Garden in Souillac, the authors create a phantasmagorical setting where two worlds come together: “The story constantly moves back and forth between two worlds. That of little Lakshmi who lives in a magical place surrounded by living flora and fauna in the truest sense of the word. Then there is the other world, that of Santa Claus, which the little heroine will try to save,” explains Kavinien, teacher.
For Amarnath, writing the book came naturally: “Kavinien and I were on the same wavelength. So much so that the writing came to us like a stream.
Much more than a tale, the book is for its authors a literary heritage: “Several tales from elsewhere have rocked our childhood. Few from home grow up with our children. Amarnarth has corrected this deficiency with its many stories. It is for this very reason that I wanted to partner with him on this project. The goal is to contribute together to enrich the literary heritage of our country for the children of today and those to come.
On sale at Rs 450, the book is already available in bookstores. Copies have been donated to the Lois Lagesse Trust Fund and to the NGO Lizie dan Lame.
