The other subject addressed by the Labour Minister at the MSM press conference this morning at the Sun Trust was the Stanford Asset Holdings affair. This is a case of alleged misappropriation of more than Rs 500 million.
Soodesh Callichurn summed up the case by glossing over the fact that Stanford Asset Holdings had been rejected by the Supreme Court when it demanded that AfrAsia Bank reveal the names of the alleged beneficiaries of the misappropriated funds.However, he rightly pointed out that the company had won its case before the Privy Council and that it had enforced the Law Lords’ decision.
Referring to the freezing order issued by the Supreme Court, Soodesh Callichurn said that a former Labour candidate in the 2015 mayoral election was among those targeted.
He then went on to discuss the comments of MP and lawyer Khushal Lobine, who is also targeted by the freezing order. He explained that he did not understand the comments made by the MP for No. 15. He added that the court order had nothing to do with the PTr-MMM-PMSD alliance congress in Vacoas.
