Cash prizes amounting to Rs 824,000 were remitted, today, to athletes and coaches for their participation in international Championships in the following sports disciplines: Ju Jitsu, cycling, kickboxing, judo and athletics. The cash prize ceremony was held at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex in the presence of the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, representatives of sports clubs and other personalities.
A sum of Rs 4.6 million was also disbursed today in favour of 46 sports clubs, forming part of the Associations of Volleyball, Handball, Basketball and Rugby. Each sports club received a grant of Rs 100,000.
Speaking at the event, Minister Toussaint congratulated the athletes for their hard work and for making the country proud despite the difficult situation posed by challenges that include the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a bid to encourage the athletes in their endeavours, he pointed out that the Ministry will continuously provide its support. The Budget allocated for financial year 2022/2023 has increased slightly which will be beneficial to them, he added.
The ongoing preparation for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 and the 12th edition of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) Games which will be held in Mauritius this year were also highlighted by the Minister.

African Championships 2022 in Angola (Ju Jitsu)
Cash prizes of Rs 30,000 to Ms Marie Chandrine Perrine; Rs 53,000 to Mr Jonathan Charlot; Rs 35,000 to Mr Adil Rashwan Dookee; and Rs 18,000 to the coach, Mr Kaviraj Goodoory.
CAC Mountain Bike African Championships 2022 in Namibia (Cycling)
Cash prizes of 30,000 to Ms Kimberley Le Court De Billot; and Rs 12,000 to the coach, Mr Trevor Court.
7th International Turkish Open Kickboxing World Cup 2022 in Turkey (Kickboxing)
Cash prizes of Rs 100,000 to Mr Fabrice Bauluck; Rs 65,000 to Ms Annaelle Coret; Rs 65,000 to Mr Adriano Dinally; Rs 35,000 to Mr Clive Carmagnole; Rs 17,000 to Mr Jude Ryley; and Rs 40,000 to the coach, Mr Judex Jacques Jeannot.
African Senior Judo Championships 2022 in Algeria (Judo)
Cash prizes of Rs 90,000 to Ms Priscilla Morand; Rs 60,000 to Ms Christianne Legentil; Rs 30,000 to Mr Remi Feuillet; Rs 36,000 to the coach, Mr Gabriel Morand Burger; and Rs 24,000 to the coach, Ms Priscilla Chery.
