Mr Seewooram Puddoo, born on 01 November 1923, celebrated his birthday on 01 November 2023, at LA Residential Care Home, in Upper Dagotière, during an official ceremony organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity.
The Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Security, Mrs Fazila Jeewa- Daureeawoo; the Chairperson of District Council of Moka, Mr Sudhir Soonarane; the Chairperson of the Senior Citizen council, Mr Hanslall Seeboruth; family members of Mr Puddoo; and other personalities were present on this occasion.
Mr Puddoo was honored, by the authorities, with a cheque amounting to Rs 26,203; an orthopedic mattress; a food basket; a centenarian medal; and a certificate. Additionally, he was presented with a cash gift of Rs 10,000, courtesy of the National Solidarity Fund.
The centenarian, also known as Dada Puddoo, hails from Chemin Grenier. He studied up to standard five and began working as a tailor at the age of 24. He owns two tailor workshops in Belle Rose and Chemin Grenier. His wife, Mrs Essoo Bhaye, passed away in March 2018, leaving behind 2 sons and 2 daughters, all of whom are now retired.
For the past eight years, Mr Puddoo has been living at the residential care home of Upper Dagotière. His favorite dishes include both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, and his hobbies include cinema, kite flying, dancing, and singing. Despite facing medical challenges like poor eyesight and hearing, he remains mobile with the help of a walking stick. Mr Puddoo attributes his long life to always being helpful to others and the grace of God.
