A 17-year-old boy was assaulted on a private bus on the morning of Friday 9 September in Tranquebar. His assailants were none other than the driver and the conductor of the bus. A motorcyclist joined these two men to hit the schoolboy on the head with a motorbike helmet. The latter, with a form 58, went to the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis for treatment.
In his statement made in the presence of his father at the Pope Hennessy police station around midday on Friday 9 September, the teenager gave an account of his attack. He said that he had boarded the bus in Cité Vallijee at around 7:15 a.m. on the same day and was sitting in one of the back seats on the left side. This bus was travelling in the direction of Vallée Pitot.
He was about to get off at a bus stop at Ste Anne, Tranquebar by the back door when the conductor came up to him and reproached him for his behaviour on this vehicle. Without warning, he slapped him in the face before calling out to the driver, who hit him on the head.
An unknown motorcyclist arrived and took off his helmet to hit the schoolboy on the head. The bus driver then pushed the teenager onto the road and then hit him all over his body.
The teenager told police he can identify his three attackers. Pope Hennessy police have launched an investigation.
