Saved In The Lagoon, He Is Placed Under Artificial Respiration

This Thursday, November 4, a trip to the sea, during the Divali festival, turned into a tragedy for a resident of Mapou. This 42 year old marble layer found himself in difficulty in the lagoon of the public beach of Butte à L’Herbe, Grand-Gaube. After being rescued by one of his friends, he was brought to the beach where he was given first aid. Afterwards, he was taken to the North Hospital where he was placed under artificial respiration in the intensive care unit.

It was around 1:50 pm on Thursday, November 4th that a team of police officers from the National Coast Guard (NCG), led by Inspector Juliette, went to the beach of Butte à L’Herbe after being informed of a case of a bather in difficulty. Upon arrival, the police found that the victim had already been pulled out of the water by his friend. Although conscious, he was having difficulty breathing.

His friend explained to the police officers of the NCG that the victim was swimming at a distance of ten meters from the beach at a depth of one meter fifty. At one point, he said he saw him in trouble and struggling. The friend then jumped into the water to go to his rescue.

An investigation was initiated to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
