Rugby: South Regional Sevens – Historic Performance Of The Mauritians

A gold medal for the men and a bronze medal for the women and as a bonus a ticket for the men’s national selection for the Commonwealth and World Cup qualifying tournament next April. These are the results of the Mauritian participation in the pre-qualifying tournament South Regional Sevens which took place on January 29 and 30 in Lesotho.

However, Amelie Ritter and her teammates lost 25-0 against Zimbabwe and 17-10 against Namibia. The Mauritians thus win the bronze medal in this tournament.

In the men’s category, Mauritius won the gold medal by achieving the pass of five. Alexis Merle’s teammates beat Eswatini (14-0), Lesotho (22-5), Botswana (21-10) in the group stage. Then, in the semifinals, they dominated again Eswatini (14-0). In the final Mauritius did not tremble against Lesotho (14-7).

The men’s national team has thus validated its ticket for the Commonwealth and World Cup qualifying tournament next April in Tunisia.
