A most audacious burglary was perpetrated at the home of a policeman in the Arsenal area of Terre Rouge, whose wife works for the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA). The thieves gained access to the interior by breaking open an aluminum back door. They opened a night table drawer and grabbed a plastic bag containing several gold jewels. The total value was Rs 800,000.
This Wednesday morning, October 11, the police officer’s wife went to the Terre Rouge police station to report this case of burglary. According to her, the theft took place between 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday October 10 and 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday October 11.
Everything indicates that the perpetrators of this theft are aware of the couple’s whereabouts. They waited until they were away to force open a door at the back of the house to gain access to the interior. A plastic bag containing chains, rings, batanas and earrings was stolen from a drawer.
The Criminal Investigation Division of Terre Rouge, led by the men of Inspector Ramburrun, is investigating the case. During the day, a local resident was taken to the CID office for questioning. A bricklayer claimed to have seen him lurking in the woods. The suspect told him, “mo ti pe mett piez pou trap liev”.
A search of his home turned up nothing.
