A large shipment of heroin of 15 kilos, with a street value of Rs 225 million, was seized during a raid by police officers from the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) of Flacq in the afternoon of Monday, April 11, in Belle-Mare. With a search warrant, these policemen, led by Inspector Seebnath, arrived at the home of Louis Laval Gérale Arthémidor, 40 years old. As the latter was absent, this exercise took place in the presence of his father. The suspect was taken prisoner shortly afterwards.
It was shortly after noon on Monday, April 11 that Inspector Seebnath’s team arrived at the home of Gérale Arthémidor. Information was obtained that this individual was involved in drug trafficking. After hours of surveillance, the DCIU men stormed his home and the search was carried out in the presence of his father, given that the suspect was not present. These officers found a travel bag in which, there were several plastic bags containing methamphetamine.
The seized drugs were transported to the DCIU’s office in Flacq. In the meantime, a large-scale operation was set up to arrest Gerale Arthemidor. The latter turned himself in to the police shortly after 3 pm on Monday 11 April. The seized drugs were then transported under heavy surveillance to the Headquarters of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) at the Central Barracks.
The suspect will be brought before the Court of Flacq this Tuesday morning, April 12 under the provisional charge of drug trafficking. The investigation in this case is being supervised by the Assistant Commissioner of Police and Eastern Divisional Commander, Mohunlall Madhow.
In a statement to the press, the Commissioner of Police Anil Kumar Dip congratulated the team that conducted this exercise. The latter has once again called for the collaboration of the population, including the press, to help dismantle the drug trafficking network.
The Commissioner of Police said to the traffickers: ” fer attension! Are me pena saper, pena kata kata, I mean business”.
