Afzal Cassim, 31 years old and living in Plaine-Verte, was arrested on a charge of assault on a police officer.
It was at 10:40 a.m. this Monday, January 9, that the attention of the police officers of the Police Post of the Dr. Jeetoo Hospital was drawn by a shouting in front of the emergency room. A policeman came to see what was going on and found a couple arguing. A man was assaulting a woman. The officer tried to call this individual to order. Without warning, the man was to slap him on the right cheek with his left hand in front of the entire audience. At the same time, the man had to say to him, “pa ou problem sa…”, accompanied by swearing.
With the help of another police officer, Afzal Cassim was taken to the Police Post for investigation. He had bruises on the left side of his face. When asked to explain how he was injured, he stated that he had an epileptic seizure in the morning at his home. Afzal Cassim was arrested, but after being seen by a doctor, he was admitted to the ward and placed under police surveillance. The police officer was examined by a doctor with a form 58.
