Since commencing operations in November 2023, the Port-Louis Cruise Terminal has welcomed 35 cruise ships and recorded over 40,000 arrivals by April 4, 2024.
These figures demonstrate that the new terminal is helping to boost the country’s tourism industry and economy, and consolidate Port Louis’ position as the regional hub for cruise business in the Indian Ocean. A further 23 cruise ships are expected between April and December 2024.
Inaugurated last December by the Prime Minister, the Honorable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, the Port Louis Cruise Terminal, with an operational area of 7,500 square meters, boasts modern facilities offering international-standard service for a smooth embarkation and disembarkation experience for cruise passengers. The terminal required an investment of around Rs. 900 million.
Jérôme Boulle, Chairman of the Mauritius Ports Authority, commented: “We are delighted to have welcomed over 40,000 passengers in five months. We continue to attract cruise ships and increase the number of cruise passengers transiting through Port Louis. Cruise tourism brings substantial benefits to the port’s various operators and to the national economy in terms of direct and indirect employment.”

The Port Louis Cruise Terminal connects destinations within the Vanilla Islands for passengers from all over the world.
The terminal includes facilities for immigration, customs and health services to increase the efficiency of passenger transit.
Particular attention has been paid to passenger safety. Parking areas for around 120 vehicles, with well-defined locations, are available for coaches, cabs and other vehicles.
