Following the heavy rainfall warning issued by the Vacoas weather station this morning, the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology informs the public that there will be no classes in pre-primary, primary, secondary, SEN (Special Education Needs) schools, technical and vocational education centers including those of MITD and Polytechnics Mauritius as well as higher education institutions this Thursday, 19 January 2023. This is according to a communiqué issued this morning.
Heads of schools and non-teaching staff are nevertheless expected to visit their respective schools/centers for an assessment.
A heavy rainfall warning is in effect in Mauritius and will be valid until 05:00 tomorrow, Friday 20 January 2023. The moderate tropical storm CHENESO has intensified into a strong tropical storm during the night. It is moving westward at about 20 km/h and will not directly influence the weather in Mauritius and Rodrigues for the next 3 days.
