A new refugee centre will soon be opened in St. Rita, Agalega. The initiative comes from the Outer Island Development Corporation (OIDC). A pre-bid meeting for companies that will participate in a bidding exercise for this project is scheduled for 15 September at the Marie Reine de la Paix Social Centre in Port Louis.
Only companies that are not blacklisted by the African Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Inter-American Development Bank Group and the World Bank will be allowed to bid on the project. The company to be selected must have at least five years of experience and have already completed similar projects worth at least Rs 25 million.
Only Mauritian companies or companies incorporated in Mauritius or joint ventures incorporated in Mauritius are allowed to participate in the bidding exercise.
The project involves the demolition of part of the existing refuse structure which is currently in ruins and to build in its place a New Refugee Centre at the village of St.Rita located south of Agalega.
The building to be constructed will consist of a reinforced concrete, steel and wood structure. The building will have a veranda, an open room, a kitchen, toilet facilities and bathrooms for men and women.
