Must Read

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Curepipe has been seized with the most difficult investigation. In the early hours of Sunday March 27, Nirmal Doodee, also known as Aman, a skipper of the Mauritius Port Authority (MPA) died at the Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle. This is after the 40 year old Midlands resident ingested a certain amount of poison on the night of Friday March 26. The autopsy revealed that he died of acute cerebral edema.

His sister, Sharmila Suroop, 46, points the finger at her sister-in-law, Ousha Doodee, 33. She accuses her sister-in-law of poisoning her husband. Ousha Doodee was arrested during the day of Sunday, March 27, on a charge of having made her husband absorb a harmful substance. In the presence of a lawyer, she denied the charge against her.

The couple Doodee beat of the wing. The couple, who live in the family’s backyard, had frequent arguments. The couple has two small children. Nirmal Doodee was a former police officer with the National Coast Guard before joining the MPA.

That Friday, March 26, was another argument and Nirmal Doodee was taken to the hospital by his brother.  His sister, Sharmila Suroop said she saw Ousha giving him a liquid to drink when she went to their home.

The case is being investigated by Inspector Vikash Nundoo of the Curepipe CID, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Mahendradeosingh Surnam, who is in charge of the Central Division CID. Although Ousha Doodee has been arrested, these police officers are still investigating whether she had any responsibility in her husband’s death. The 30-year-old woman explained in her statement, in the presence of a lawyer, that her husband committed suicide.

The CID intends to interview other people in the coming days, including the children of this couple to understand this family drama. The autopsy of Nirmal Doodee at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 27 by Dr. Sheila Jankee Parsad, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed the death to acute cerebral edema. Samples were taken for analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Reduit. Forensic technicians also seized the bottle of poison.
