Moped Rider Killed When He Crashes Into A Van

Nivesh Ganaputhee, 41, also known as Viken, lost his life in a road accident. The resident of Jagriti Road, 7th Mile, Triolet was admitted to the intensive care unit of the North Hospital on Saturday, August 14, with serious injuries. This was after the moped he was riding collided head-on with a van on the Royal Road in Triolet. The 40-year-old succumbed to his injuries on the morning of Tuesday 16 August. He died because of cranial-cerebral injuries.

Police officers from the Triolet police station went to the scene of the accident at around 1pm on Saturday 13 August. A Yamaha moped and a Hyundai van collided. The injured man was evacuated to the North Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the van was given a breath test, which was negative. Both vehicles were seriously damaged and towed to the Triolet police station for examination.

Nivesh Ganaputhee received treatment before being admitted to the intensive care unit. His life was at risk. Footage from a Safe City camera was seen. The van was seen leaving a common road on the left-hand side and heading towards Solitude. At the same time, the moped, which was travelling towards Grand Bay, collided with the rear of this vehicle.

Nivesh Ganaputhee was pronounced dead at around 9.45am on Monday 16 August, and the autopsy was carried out at the mortuary of the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis at 3pm the same day. The autopsy, conducted by Dr Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to cranial-cerebral injuries.

The funeral of Nivesh Ganaputhee took place on yesterday, Wednesday 17 August. His remains were taken to the Bois-Marchand cemetery in Terre-Rouge.
