In the context of integration works of Phase 3 undertaken by the Metro Express Ltd (MEL) connecting Rose-Hill to Ebène to Réduit, a single line operation from Beau Bassin to Rose-Hill will be effective as from 15 August 2022 for a period of three weeks. Four intersections along the route will be affected and there will be a change in the operating hours for the metro.
The Chief Executive Officer of MEL, Dr Das Mootanah, provided this information, on Friday, during a site visit at the Rose-Hill Central station with regards to the integration works. He indicated that 65% of works regarding Phase 3 have been completed. As for the Phase 2C, that will connect Phoenix to Curepipe, 97% of works have been accomplished and trial runs along the route are ongoing, he stressed.
Mr Mootanah underlined that trial runs will end in September and the Phoenix to Curepipe corridor is expected to be operational in October.
The Chief Maintenance of MEL, Mr Moorooghen Chinapen, for his part, made an appeal for commuters to check the new operation hours on the website and social media platforms of MEL. The station staff, he pointed out, will be on spot to guide passengers. With regard to the change in operating hours, he indicated that commuters will avail the metro after an interval of every 20 minutes.
As for the Police Inspector of the Emergency Response Service Transport, Mr Poorcelan, he advised commuters to take all necessary precautions at the four intersections especially while crossing roads. Policemen and flags-men will help and ensure safety of commuters, he added.
