In the context of its campaign for mass sterilisation of dogs, the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) proceeded with the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with five private veterinary clinics at the MSAW in Beau-Bassin.
The main aim is to seek the support and expertise of veterinarians in order to provide sterilisation services for a greater population of dogs.
In a statement, the Director of the MSAW, Mr Julien George, underlined that the project for mass sterilisation of dogs was initiated last year in view to cater for stray dogs and to control the canine population. To date, he indicated, some 6,000 vouchers were distributed around the island and more than 4,000 dogs have been sterilised.
He remarked that the MSAW is fully engaged in its revamping project and is coming up with several activities to raise awareness on animal welfare among the population. The Catch and Kill programme, he stressed, has been phased out and the MSAW is coming up with the Catch Neuter Release program under the Sustainable Project for the Dog Population Control in Mauritius.
Mr George expressed confidence that the partnership with private veterinary clinics will help to enhance the services provided by the MSAW. He further called on dog owners to register themselves online on the MSAW’s website, https://www.msaw-mu.org, or by downloading the mobile application, sterilise ou lisien, so as to benefit from vouchers for free sterilisation of their pets.
