The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Grand-Baie which was made aware of a possible involvement of one of the saleswomen of a Mado store in a misappropriation of funds proceeded to the arrest of Soodeepta Lungar, 33 years old living in Grand-Baie on Tuesday, October 19. This saleswoman of the store Mado perfume in the Super U of Grand-Baie is suspected of having embezzled a sum of Rs 1 027 650.
It is with a search warrant that these investigators of the CID of Grand-Baie, led by inspector Thakoor, sergeants Daby and Doorbeejun landed at the home of Soodeepta Lungar in Grand-Baie. The suspect was informed of the reason for the police visit. While this exercise was in progress Sweety Lungar, the sister of the suspect, a policewoman assigned to the Goodlands police station, confronted her fellow police officers. The same policewoman had been received by the Acting Commissioner of Police, Anil Kumar Dip for an act of bravery in August.
This goes back to last July 20, the director of Mado Perfume Co Ltd had made a statement at the police station of Grand Bay to report an embezzlement of a sum of Rs 1 027 650 to the detriment of his store of Grand Bay. This money, he said, should have been paid into the bank. This crime, explained this 69-year-old man was committed between January and July of this year. He said that seven saleswomen work in rotation in this store.
During this investigation conducted by the CID of Grand Bay, five of these saleswomen were interviewed. They were subsequently allowed to leave the CID office. During the day of Tuesday, October 19, these police officers raided the home of Soodeepta Lungar. Soodeepta Lungar was arrested and detained after her appearance at the Pamplemousses court. As the police objected to her release on parole, she was returned to her cell at the Trou aux Biches police station. This thirty-year-old woman, who has retained the services of a lawyer, has not yet given a statement.
