The Labour Party celebrated its 87th anniversary yesterday at an anniversary convention. The theme chosen was: “‘Innovation, breakthrough, and renewal”.
Several young people of the Labour Party were allowed to speak before the elders came to speak about the essence of the party and its obligations since its creation to the Mauritian nation. Very strong speeches by Arvin Boolell and the leader Navin Ramgoolam. The latter had a rather unifying message.
Current issues such as the Kistnen affair, electoral fraud, or the arrival of 6,000 Bangladeshis on Mauritian soil dominated the speech of Navin Ramgoolam who reaffirmed his determination to meet with the electoral commissioner, Irfan Rahman. Navin Ramgoolam also spoke about the party’s designers, for whom there will be no way back.
“We need to rally as much as possible, as Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam did during the elections for the independence of the country,” said the red leader, “to rid the country of the clutches of the MSM.
Ramgoolam has also pledged to introduce a Freedom of Information Act if he returns to power. Speaking about the Franklin affair, Navin Rangoolam believes that the “mafia” has settled in the highest levels of the state.
Navin Ramgoolam welcomed the presence of MMM secretary-general Rajesh Bhagwan, PMSD’s Dr Mamade Khodabaccus, members of Rezistans ek Alternativ, activist Ivann Bibi and civil service unionist Narendranath Gopee at the PTr’s anniversary convention.
