Five horses will fight for victory in the main race of Saturday which will be run over 1600m. Trippi’s Express is the favourite to win the contest, but he will have to beat Var And Away and Ideal Secret.
Trippi’s Express ran in the money six times out of his seven races this season. He finished second four times. He was only beaten by Frosted Goal in The Princess Margaret Cup (1400m – G1). Trippi’s Express is the best horse of Saturday’s field with the highest Merit Rating. He can race close to the pace, and he can also make it from pillar to post. The Rameshwar Gujadhur-trained horse will be the horse to beat among those who have not yet won this season.
The main danger will be Var And Away. He raced only four times in Mauritius. He finished second over 1500m in September. His trainer, Shirish Narang, brought him back to a sprint over 990m which is not his preferred trip in October. Var And Away is in a better shape and he will be a big runner this time.
Ideal Secret is an in and out performer. He was softly ridden last time finishing strongly not far from the winner Dynamite Jack. He can make it in that class and with only five runners.
Backpacker was one-paced at the finish over 1600m last time. He showed his limits with horses of B51. He will rely on his lightweight to upset the favourite.
