Prior to the start of the 4th race of Saturday, trainer S Mahadia informed the Stewards that he had intended to lead with MASSIMO (I Taka) and race TRANSONIC (J De Souza) with cover. When questioned by the Stewards regarding TRANSONIC’s (J De Souza) previous history of pulling in the running, Trainer S Mahadia explained that he had worked this gelding with cover at trackwork and believed this horse could race with cover. The Stewards noted the explanations of Trainer S Mahadia and disseminated the riding tactics to the public.
After the running of this race, the Stewards acting under Rule 33*, stood down Jockey Jose De Souza (TRANSONIC) for the remaining of the race meeting. An inquiry has been opened into Jockey J De Souza’s riding of TRANSONIC in this race won by his stable companion Massimo from start to finish.
