Horse Racing Division Takes On Training Commitment

Must Read

The training of horses will be able to resume although the Champ-de-Mars track cannot be used by the Mauritius Turf Club.

Indeed, in a press release issued on Thursday, April 28, the Horse Racing Division assures that everything has been done so that the horses can train and that it will take care of the costs related to the training including the cost of an ambulance and a medical team.

According to the HRD, this decision was made in the interest of the horses.

The HRD also specifies that it has intervened with the Ministry of Lands and Housing. The municipality of Port-Louis has transferred the management of the Champ-de-Mars to this ministry.

Still, confusion reigns among the employees of the Turf Club, and even the jockeys, who have still not received their April salary.

The MTC is currently in negotiations to find the funding necessary to pay its employees.

The jockeys who had a meeting with the head of the MTC SL Jerome Pilot are aware that the exit of the crisis is not soon. They hope that the situation will be resolved for the good of horse racing.

A situation that follows the termination of the privilege concession of the Champ-de-Mars by the MTC.

A decision that gave rise to a stormy meeting within the council of the municipality of Port-Louis this Thursday afternoon.

For some councillors, including the DR, Mamad Khodabaccus, this is an illegal decision.

Overall, this Thursday, the grooms and other employees of the MTC have made their voice heard because they have not been paid.
