A 21-year-old resident of Mount Ida was arrested this Wednesday, April 27, for stealing a car. This one of the brand Suzuki Swift belongs to his sister, aged 26 years. The young woman went to the police station of Camp de Masque late in the afternoon of the same day to report the theft. The value of this car is estimated at Rs 160 000. However, her brother was to return home with this vehicle in the late afternoon.
It was at 2:12 pm on Wednesday 27 April that the young woman reported the theft of her car to the police. She explained that the same day after an outing with her father, they returned home around 10:30. She had parked the car in her yard and left the ignition key on a kitchen table. At about 1:00 p.m., she noticed that her car was no longer in the yard and her ignition key was missing.
In her statement, she said she did not give permission to anyone to take her car except her father. She stated that she suspects her brother to be the author of this theft. The latter, she said, has bad company. Immediately, a radio message was circulated throughout the Eastern Division to this effect. Simultaneously, the news was relayed to the Police Main Command Control Centre (PMCCC) for the dissemination of this information so that a deployment is made throughout the island in order to track down this Suzuki Swift.
On the same day at about 4:30 pm, the brother of the complainant returned home in this car. The police station of Camp de Masque, which was informed of this information, had to dispatch a team of police officers to the scene. The young man was arrested and taken to the police station. He was taken into custody on Thursday, April 28, and was brought before the court in Flacq before being released on bail.
