“En 2018 mo ti pey Rs 10 000 ene kamouad ki apel… ki rest Beau Vallon ek li finn donn mwa sa lisans la ki ti lor mo non avek mo foto akot mo ti kapav roule p/car ek van 15 plas e mo finn plastifye lisans la”. This was the answer given by an individual during questioning at the Rose-Belle police station after he was stopped in the late afternoon of Tuesday May 14 by a police patrol on the New Airport Road (NAR) in Gros Billot. The suspect, Jonathan Jean François Dimba, a Mahebourgeois in his thirties, was arrested and taken into custody. On Wednesday morning, May 15, he was brought before the Mahebourg court on a provisional charge of forgery.
It was around 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, when two officers on patrol in a police vehicle intercepted a car zigzagging on the NAR at Gros Billot. They signaled the driver of the red Nissan to stop. The car had come from Plaine-Magnien and was heading towards Rose-Belle.
At the request of one of the two policemen, the driver produced his driving license, laminated in the name of Jonathan Jean François Dimba. The document looked suspicious, as there was no stamp on it. When questioned, the driver began to stammer. He was taken to the police station for a check. It turned out that the driver’s license was in the name of a resident of Clairfond N0 1, Vacoas. Confronted with this element, this driver had to declare, “ofet mo pena lisans, mo ti ena learner ek sa oussi finn sote akoz enn kess alkote”, before adding, “En 2018 mo ti pey Rs 10 000 ene kamouad ki apel. . ki rest Beau Vallon ek li finn donn mwa sa lisans la ki ti lor mo non avek mo foto akot mo ti kapav roule p/car ek van 15 plas e mo finn plastifye lisans la”.
The Mahebourgeois was arrested and taken into custody at the Rose-Bois police station. He will be questioned again about the case after his court appearance, as the police objected to his release on bail. The Rose-Belle investigators want to get to the bottom of the whole affair.
