The village of Crève-Cœur played host to the third round of the Urban Trail League organized by G-Trail in collaboration with the Pamplemousses District Council on September 30. The race was won by Geraldo Grimaud in 47:20 and Alexandra Henin in 1:02:54 in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
Some 300 participants lined up for the 10-kilometer race, which started and finished at the Crève-Cœur soccer field. After a four-kilometre tour of the village, the runners tackled a tough 1.5-kilometre climb to the foot of the Deux Mamelles mountain, before taking the descent of the Malenga steps to the finish.
Event favourite Geraldo Grimaud faced stiff resistance from junior Brandon Sooriah, who took second place in 47:37, while Calvin Curoopen completed the podium in 48:28. “The course was very tough. My opponents made the race interesting. I’m happy to have won the first Crève-Cœur trail”, said Geraldo Grimaud.
As for the big winner in the girls’ category, Alexandra Henin, who is classified in the veteran category, she demonstrated her physical capabilities by finishing 44th overall in a time of 1:02:54. “For my first participation in a G-Trail race, I had a great experience. The climb was steep and the scenery magnificent. I had great physical sensations on the descent to the finish”, said Alexandra Henin.
Steffy Li Ping Ching 1:03:59 and Fanny Haff 1:05:57 finished second and third respectively in the women’s scratch rankings.
The next stage of the GoSport Urban League Trail is scheduled for December 9. The venue will be posted on the G-Trail Facebook page.
