The Attorney General held a press briefing on Wednesday where he commented, in a short statement, some aspects of the Franklin case. However, this was not to the liking of the journalists present who peppered him with questions.
Maneesh Gobin said that Mauritius “will cooperate on any request for collaboration from any country”, whether it be France or any other country.
Maneesh Gobin said the purpose of his press conference was to clarify some of the comments made in the media. He also felt that there is a dangerous conflation being made following the photo of the suspect with the Prime Minister. He insisted that any request for international cooperation between two states, whether it concerns extradition or mutual legal assistance, cannot be discussed in the media. He clarified that a request from Mauritius to a foreign state or vice versa is always done under conditions of confidentiality. He explained that he can neither reveal the nature of the request made by France nor the response of Mauritius and whether the requested information was submitted.
The Attorney General, Mr Maneesh Gobin, reiterated the relentless commitment of Government to fight against the drug scourge. He was speaking at a press conference held at the seat of his office in Port Louis.
