The Political Bureau of the Labour Party met yesterday afternoon following which, Navin Ramgoolam held a press conference to comment some news item. According to Navin Ramgoolam, the arrest of Jean-Hubert Célérine, better known as Franklin was just a maneuver to avoid his extradition to Réunion Island. Dr. Navin Ramgoolam says that had the Labour Party been in power, it would have cooperated fully with the Reunion authorities and Franklin would have already been sent to the sister island. He takes a swipe at the Attorney General, Maneesh Gobin.
Ramgoolam: I am not attached to any position
He insisted that the country must be freed from the MSM and said that he is not attached to any position. He stated that “I just want to change things in the country. And then I will go… without any problem. I want to live my life,” and thus, was replying to critics who feel that he must step down as a leader. For Dr. Ramgoolam, the main target is the MSM, and said that he does not yet know in which constituency he will be a candidate in the next legislative elections.
Varma and Faugoo will face a disciplinary committee.
Their comments against the Labour Party and its leader may cost them dearly. The Political Bureau of the Labour Party met yesterday under the chairmanship of Navin Ramgoolam. The decision was taken to set up a disciplinary committee to allow two members of the party, namely Yatin Varma and Satish Faugoo, to explain themselves. Both are former ministers. The announcement was made yesterday by Navin Ramgoolam, who also said that the MSM is trying to fool some members of the opposition who have little chance of getting a nomination in the next legislative elections. For Navin Ramgoolam, the most important thing is to fix problems in the country rather than focus on whether tickets issues for the next general elections. As a reminder, Satish Faugoo had said in an interview that Navin Ramgoolam’s ‘one-man show’ must end, while Yatin Varma has been critical of the way the Labour Party has operated since the last elections.
