Yatin Varma, the lawyer for Jean-Hubert Celerine alias Franklin, has presented a motion for the release on bail of his client. The motion was presented before the Port-Louis court on Monday morning, 14 August.
The lawyer relied on Article 10 of the extradition treaty that exists between Mauritius and France.
Mᵉ Yvan Jean-Louis of the Attorney General’s Office opposed the motion.
Thus, the debates surrounding this motion, will take place on August 23 before Magistrate Shavina Jugnauth.
At this hearing, Prison Welfare Officer Julie made a statement in court following Franklin’s allegations at the last session. The latter had stated that he was being subjected to inhumane treatment at Melrose prison. Officer Julie denied these allegations. He filed a report.
On leaving the court, Mr Yatin Varma, in a statement to the press, said that Franklin’s conditions of detention had improved since last week.
